The success story that is OLONGAPO emnates from its pivotal
transformation from being a "sin city" to being a top notch destination that it
has become today.
Over the crucial years that Olongapo struggled and phenomenally surged to
prominence, one distinguishing factor summed it all: remarkable initiatives and
outstanding practices in local governance. When one talks about peace and order,
discipline, cleanliness and the "spirit of volunteerism", the name "OLONGAPO"
easily comes to mind. At last, the city became a model city worth emulating.
With its countless awards and accolades, Olongapo soon became a template for
other cities' growth and advancement.
Today, as Olongapo steadily keeps pace with the other progressive cities in the
country, competitiveness becomes even more pronounced. On a larger scale, with
the advent of advanced technology, global competitiveness has become the rule of
thumb. Cities fight for supremacy, each one with distinct advantages and
positive features waiting to be recognized. Such scenario calls for an improved
quality of work. Work performance and work attitude of people in government
service should therefore be fortified by a determined effort to excel and not to
settle for second best. Products and services, consequently, will improve, with
emphasis on quality, marketability and uniqueness.

to show the world our true worth forward-looking, bold and driven by an appetite
for success.
The challenge of sustaing our best efforts beckons. For this task, the present
city administration, under the leadership of Mayor James Gordon, Jr. zeroes in
on the vital facets of growth that aim to propel Olongapo to greater heights: a
more peaceful and more orderly community, education at its fullest potential,
quality health services, entrepreneurship (for small and medium enterprises),
the establishment of the city as a regional center, affordable housing coupled
with livelihood opportunities, improved business atmosphere, public service in
its truest sense, a society that nurtures and fosters the well being of children
and women, and the goal of creating the first Freeport City in the country.
These, in capsule, define the city's objective to continue to fight for
excellence and to constantly be aggressive about winning and prevailing, amidst
the odds.
